Mars Rover Snaps Stunning Self-Portrait

NASA put together this artsy image of Mars rover Opportunity getting a glimpse of its own shadow on the rim of Endeavour Crater. The robotic geologist used its panoramic camera to take about a dozen shots using an assortment of filters between about 4:30 and 5 p.m. Mars time on March 9.

The images were transmitted back to Earth where a team of scientists assembled them into this mosaic, which was released Wednesday.

The giant mosasaur Tylosaurus grabbing a plesiosaur called Dolichorhynchops in a breach attack from below, similar to the way killer whales catch seals. A specimen of Tylosaurus was actually found with the skeleton of a “Dolly” inside.

Thousand-Year-Old Mummies Found in Peru

Belgian archaeologists have uncovered a spectacular 1,000-year-old tomb in Peru containing more than‭ ‬80‭ ‬skeletons and mummies, many of them infants.

Carved into the earth and covered with a roof of reeds supported by shaped tree trunks, the 60-foot-long, oval chamber was discovered at the site of Pachacamac,‭ ‬about 20 miles south of the capital, Lima.
